Elderly Pets and Mobile Veterinary Care: Tailoring Services for Senior Fur-babies
When your dog starts to age into her senior years, going to the vet can be a challenge. Your older dog might find it overwhelming to spend time around other pets. Or, she may have health difficulties that make it uncomfortable or even risky for her to travel.
But veterinary care is a cornerstone of senior pet health. That’s why mobile veterinary services can be a game-changer for aging dogs and cats. Here at The Vet Gal and Guys, we love visiting our senior patients with our full-service mobile veterinary van. In this blog, we’ll highlight the benefits of mobile vets for aging pets.
Geriatric Pet Care the Mobile Way
When a mobile veterinary team visits your aging pet, they can provide a fully customized experience. The benefits include:
- Less stress: You don’t have to worry about transporting your pet to the vet, and your pet gets to stay in the comfort of his own home while he receives veterinary care.
- Customized recommendations: Arthritis, blindness, cognitive decline, and other common senior pet health issues can make it hard for pets to navigate your home. A mobile veterinary team can help you identify ways to adjust your living spaces for your aging pet.
- Reduced exposure to illnesses: Since we come to you, your pet won’t be exposed to other pets’ germs.
- End-of-life care: When the time comes to say goodbye to your treasured furry family member, you and your pet can spend those final moments together in the comfort of your home.
Are you curious about how mobile veterinary visits work for senior pets?
Here’s a quick look.
How Mobile Geriatric Pet Care Works
We recommend senior pets receive twice-yearly wellness checks to help identify and treat problems early on. Twice a year, we’ll come to your home and—armed with cuddles and treats—give your pet a full geriatric checkup. This includes:
- Nose-to-tail physical exam
- Diagnostic testing
- Prescribing necessary medications, which we bring with us in our mobile pharmacy
- Taking blood samples for lab work to check on your pet’s organ health
- Mobility and joint checks
- Providing treatment and therapy for various conditions
- Making recommendations for ongoing preventive care
- Addressing any concerns you have about your pet’s health
Everything we need for the visit is in our veterinary van (take a virtual tour here!). If your pet needs advanced care or surgery, we will transport her to our state-of-the-art facility for the procedure and deliver her back to your front door afterward.
Your sweet senior pet will feel like a king or queen as we pamper and love on him or her throughout the mobile veterinary care appointment. If you’re ready to schedule a mobile vet visit for your aging dog or cat, call us at 817-733-3011.
Our caring team can’t wait to meet you and your furry family members.
