Laser Therapy & Pain Management for Your Pet
Unlike humans, dogs and cats can’t cry or tell us what’s wrong. Recognizing signs of pain early doesn’t just help your pet feel better sooner—it also helps prevent the muscle loss that can occur with decreased activity. We will work with you to help manage your pet’s pain so the two of you can get back to your favorite activities.
How Do I Know If My Pet is in Pain?
While our pets can’t tell us when something is wrong, there are signs you can look for that indicate they may be in pain. If you notice any of the following symptoms in your dog or cat, call us or text us to schedule an appointment.
- Limping
- Panting
- Slipping easily on slick surfaces
- Moving around less than usual
Our team will do a full workup of your pet, including any necessary diagnostics to get to the bottom of what is causing your pet’s pain, and develop an individualized treatment plan.
Pain Management Modalities
At The Vet Gal and Guys we provide a multi-modal approach to pain management. Your veterinarian will customize a treatment plan to your pet’s specific needs and make adjustments as they respond to treatment. Modalities such as cold laser therapy, prescription strength joint supplements, and pain medications can be implemented individually or paired together as needed.
What is Cold Laser Therapy?
Cold laser therapy uses targeted wavelengths of light to treat painful and debilitating conditions. A safe and effective way to manage your pet’s pain, laser therapy works by emitting light energy into damaged cells. This stimulates inter-cellular activity, reducing pain in the area, decreasing inflammation, and speeding up cell recovery.
Even better, laser therapy is painless and quick. It takes around 20–30 minutes to complete. In addition, laser therapy is available with a technician appointment—no veterinarian needed. If your pet is recovering from an injury or illness that causes pain, our technicians will come to your home two-to-three times a week for treatment.
Most patients experience positive results after 3 treatments, but we recommend 6 treatments for the most successful results. Chronic conditions can be controlled with monthly treatments. At The Vet Gal and Guys, we offer single treatments at our regular rate or a bundle of six treatments at a discounted price.
What Conditions Can Cold Laser Therapy Treat?
Cold laser therapy helps treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Disc disease
- Soft tissue injuries
- Arthritis and degenerative joint conditions
- Neurological pain
- Chronic non-healing wounds
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Pre- and post-surgical treatment
- Anti-inflammation on skin and ears
